Merry Christmas!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! My mom just left after our traditional Christmas Eve lasagna dinner. My sister and family dropped by earlier and we did the kid gifts. Abby officially has lots of toys! Yay! Then Ed and I exchanged gifts. Our budget was tight this year, so we didn't spend much on each other. But I got the Hairspray 2-disc DVD, photo albums (but I still need more!) and this:

Oh how I love the Santa Spud! :)

A New Record!

Today during my break I managed to pump 9...count 'em...9 ounces! I was quite proud! And I even had time to run to the hotdog place to get lunch and to eat it in the breakroom with actual human company. Carrie and I wanted to get Chili's for lunch, but they left us on hold forever and after about 15 minutes, there was no way our food would have been done in time for lunch. Stupid dumb Chili's!

Other than that, today was actually pretty good at work. Our head cashier called out, so I got to do the deposit. I used to do that all the time, but then it was decided that I should be given that time to do my actual job, so it's been awhile. I always enjoyed counting the money though. It's the little things in life. It took forever to do because, being so close to Christmas, the deposit was pretty big. Then Kathy stopped by to see me fresh from getting her haircut at the Spa on the Avenue. She's a brave woman coming to the Avenue the Saturday before Christmas for anything but shopping! After that I had to enter all the information from the new Member cards sold the past couple days into the computer...that took a couple of hours. So by the time all was said and done, I only had to be line manager for less than an hour! Score!

Yesterday, however, sucked. I was stuck up front almost the whole day. Our district manager spent the day in the store, so our manager (whom I usually love) made me stay up there to appease her. Blah. My back was killing me by the time I went home, so that sucked. But I feel better now. Hopefully I don't have too many shifts up front tomorrow.

In babyland, we gave Abby a bath tonight. The first time we ever did that, it was horrible. She screamed through the whole thing. It's still not her favorite thing, but at least she resigns herself to it now. I'm sure she'll start to like it soon enough. I usually turn the oven on to warm up the kitchen for her, but I forgot tonight. Maybe that's why she wasn't thrilled about it. :( It couldn't have been too bad though because I didn't see any shivers. It's so sad when she does that, but just too cute for words at the same time.

Okay, I really have to finish wrapping gifts. My mom gave me some more Christmas bags yesterday, so now I can finish. Actual wrapped gifts from me are rare this year. Tomorrow I have to spend all evening making Oreo Balls, which is what I give my fellow managers at the store as Christmas gifts. Nothing says "Merry Christmas" like some Oreo Balls! Yummy!

Now There's Something You Don't See Everyday

No eight hours of sleep tonight, but that's okay because I had to get up to get ready for work anyway. The only bad thing this morning is that Abby has a little bit of a stuffy nose. So I gave her some saline drops and suctioned out what I could. She actually didn't mind either thing, much to my surprise. She used to have a fit when I would use the aspirator, but recently she hasn't fussed at all through it. But anyway, it was just before 6 and Ed was up helping me. He was on his way to the kitchen to get a drink when I heard him say, "Now there's something you don't see everyday." It was the mailman delivering a package to our front door. Yeah, at 6 am. Tis the season, I guess. Fa la la la la. The best part was that it wasn't even a Christmas present, it was a baby gift from someone I used to work with! I hope she didn't stand in those crazy lines at the post office just to mail that...but I'm sure she had other packages to mail too. Anyway, off to get the baby ready to take to my mom's for the day. Yay for grandma!

She's Just Like Her Parents

She loves to sleep and eat. She has slept for 8 hours two nights in a row. She probably would have done the same for awhile, but when I work in the morning I have to wake her up to make sure she gets fed before I leave. This morning, after sleeping from midnight to 8am, she ate, played for about an hour, ate again and now she's in her crib sleeping away. That's my baby!

Today is my last day off until Christmas. The holiday in retail doesn't seem nearly as bad this year. I guess that's what happens when you get to miss most of it. I'm not feeling humbuggy at all. That being said, I'm definitely not looking forward to working this weekend. That's going to suck. Especially since I'm going to be stuck as line manager all weekend long. That would be the single most boring job in the world. I basically stand at the front of the line and direct people to open registers. They want me to do it because I'm also supposed to be selling gift cards and memberships and answering questions and whatever else is needed, but when it's as busy as it will be this weekend, all you can really do is direct people to registers. Blah. But I put on a smile and act as cheery as possible while I'm doing it.

I guess I should try to finish wrapping gifts while the baby is asleep. I can't find two of the things I bought. I got two necklaces at Target during my largest shopping spree of the season and now they're missing. I have to search my car just in case they fell out of the bag in there. Here's hoping!

Just Call Me Bessy

Sometimes I just feel like a milk machine. I'm not complaining, mind you. Far from it. I'm actually proud of my freak milk-producing skills that have allowed me to go ten weeks without having to supplement Abby's diet with formula. I just hope I can keep it up. The pumping sucks...especially when I keep forgetting to take the pump to work with me (like I did again yesterday). One day I'll get used to it. I usually get a decent amount when I pump, but I work for the last half of it. I can contort my breasts in ways you don't want to imagine to get a stream going. Another advantage to having an ample bust. ;) I much prefer just sticking her on and letting her do her thing though. It makes life so easy.

Actually, she has had formula once. For her very first meal. I was so tired and out of it after the C-section, that when I tried to feed her the first time, it just wasn't happening. So the nurse asked if she could give her formula so she could get her first meal. She sensed my hesitation, so she swore that she would finger feed her so that she wouldn't get used to a bottle right off the bat. But that was the only time.

Heh...speaking of milk, I'm watching her on the video monitor and she's sucking away at her hand. That used to only mean that she was hungry, but now she does it while she's sleeping too. And sometimes she twirls her hair with the other hand. It's so cute. But I actually think she's hungry this time, so that's it for now. Let's hope I remember the pump when I have to go to work this afternoon.

Shameless Plug

Okay people, I really need to get back into the swing of my Pampered Chef thing (hey...that rhymed). The host specials for January and February rock, so now's the time to have a party if you've been avoiding it. ;) In January you get at least $50 extra in free product with a $500 or more show. In February, you get to pick any two items in the catalog to get at 60% off. As an added bonus, I'll buy the ingredients and bring them to your show if you book for either month (but I get to pick the recipes!). If you refer someone, they get the same deal and I'll give you a present (and my undying affection). End of the commercial.

Today is my first day off since last Wednesday. We went over to visit Aunt Becky and Claire and then stopped by my mom's office on the way home. A good time was had by all. I even managed to get a few things done around the house, so that was good. I've called a few daycare places, but still no luck. I thought I had a good lead from my PC director. Unfortunately, the opening that her girl had was for a baby over 1. Blah. I'm going to suck it up and call the daycare referral place during my lunch break tomorrow while I (hopefully) pump. I'm also going to try to catch the phone number on the sign outside a place I pass by on my way to work everyday. It seems like it's fairly new, so maybe I'll have some luck with that.

Baby's stirring. Gotta run!

So Sleepy

Well, I'm officially back into the swing of things at work. I cried all the way there on Thursday, but I was okay once I walked in the building. It was like coming home. The best part was watching people react to seeing me. I've been there so long that they're just used to seeing me. So they'd see me and say hi, then do a double take and come running over. It's nice to feel loved. ;)

Ed has been doing great with Abby all by his lonesome. I was a little worried, but he's handling it fine. He does what daddies do best...plays with her all day long. She's loving it too. His parents watched her on Friday. The only crappy part about that was I had to go pick her up because Ed had a late appointment. It took me 20 minutes to get from the store to 95. It was fine once I got on, but I knew that coming back from the Glen Burnie area would be a nightmare, so I hung around their house for awhile and then we went to Target to pick up a couple of things. After that, the drive home wasn't too bad.

My biggest problem with work right now is trying to pump. My first day back, we had a bunch of big-wigs in the store, so I was uncomfortable trying to do it with all of them there. Then Friday I forgot to take the pump. Yesterday I managed to remember it and got to do it, getting about 6 1/2 oz. But then I forgot it again today. I swear, if I had a memory, I'd be dangerous. I'll get used to it eventually. We've only had to defrost one bag from my emergency supply in the freezer, so that's not too bad.

After working four straight days, I have off tomorrow. Hooray!

Blogging Through the Tears

I'm getting ready to go back to work. When my leave started, nine weeks sounded like such a long time, but it went by in a flash. I can't believe I already have to leave her...it's just too sad. I started tearing up about a dozen times yesterday. My separation anxiety is definitely going to be much worse than the baby's. As long as she's fed, dry, amused and getting enough sleep, she's happy. It doesn't so much matter to her who's taking care of those needs. I'm the one who thinks it needs to be me all the time.

Don't worry about me today though. Ed's the one who needs the positive thoughts. This will be the first time he's been alone with her for more than an hour or so. He's definitely nervous, but I'm sure he'll be fine as long as he keeps his cool. He tends to get flustered when she's fussing a lot. I had a talk with Abby yesterday about being nice to Daddy. Hopefully she'll remember. ;) I'm going to try to come home for lunch, but that depends on how busy the store is. If it's too busy, it would be pointless to come home because I'd just have to turn right around to leave again so I have time to find parking. I have my pump all packed up just in case.

At least the baby made it fairly easy for me this morning. She let me sleep until about 5:15. That was the perfect time for me to feed her, play a little and rock her back to sleep. Then I took my shower, got my stuff together and (obviously) jumped on the computer. But, now it's time to get my butt in gear. Let's hope the day goes by quickly. With over two months of e-mails and voice-mails to catch up on, it should!

2-Month Checkup

Wow...so not fun. Especially by myself since Ed had an owner's presentation to do this morning. She was actually doing fine for most of it. She's now 12 pounds on the nose and 23 1/2 inches long (75th and 80th percentiles). Apparently she didn't inherit my big head, because her head circumference was only in the 25th percentile. Go figure. She was good as gold for most of the examination until he brought out the needles. Extreme crying ensues. At least she fell right to sleep in the car, but she starting fussing up a storm about an hour ago. I'm pretty sure she's in a little pain (and her temperature is a little up), so I gave her a dose of baby Tylenol. I actually got her to fall asleep and she let me put her in the crib, but I can still hear her little moans over the monitor. So sad. :(

I forgot to mention one of the easier rites of passage we went through on Sunday. We had to attend the "Christening Class" at our church. The godparents were supposed to attend too, but Becky couldn't get out of work. We were so worried that it would be a problem, but the deacon running the class was like, "No big deal...at least the godfather is here." Alrighty then. Ed asked how long the class was going to be and he said, "Oh, about 15 to 20 minutes. Most of the stuff we'll go over the day of anyway." Sure enough, a half hour later we were home. That was awesome. When Becky had Claire baptised, she and Scott had to go to two 2-hour classes. We got off way too easy. The christening is on January 20th at 1...invitations will be sent out sometime this week. As will my Christmas cards (just waiting to get to the store to get Christmas stamps).

On a sadder note, tomorrow is my last day of leave (although this past week has officially been vacation). I just want to cry thinking about it. And I get to spend the day waiting around the house for a repairman to show up. Our dishwasher hasn't been working for about 2 1/2 weeks and tomorrow was the earliest appointment we could get. Thank goodness we got the extended warranty on it. It's definitely an electrical problem, so it wasn't anything Ed could try to fix. I just can't wait to have the darned thing working again!

Off to attempt to wrap some gifts before the baby wakes up. Needless to say, I'm using a lot more gift bags than usual. Whatever works.

2 Months Old!

Can you believe my little doodlebug is 2 months old today? How crazy is that? She's getting so big and even cuter than ever (who would have thought it was even possible?). Every day she is getting more and more alert. My favorite times are after she wakes up and eats. That's her smiley, playful times. It melts my heart every time she smiles at me. :) I will be so sad on Thursday when I have to go back to work. I'm trying not to think about that too much yet. I'll deal with it when it comes.

Here's her "official" month-day shot. It's not the best picture, so we may try again after she wakes up from her nap.

And here's one from a few days ago when I actually caught a smile.

Photo Dump

I finally got around to downloading some pictures yesterday, so enjoy. :)

I love my daddy!

Preview of our Christmas card picture.

Letting us know she's slightly annoyed.

Hanging with Grandma on Thanksgiving.

Letting me know she's hungry.

Playing with her friend Jordan.

What's Been Going On

First of all, I finally got "the call" from my benefits department asking about my plans for returning to work. I wish we could afford for me to take unpaid leave, but that's out of the question. :( Wednesday is my first "official" day back, but I have an extra week's vacation that my awesome manager said I could take after my maternity leave. So I actually don't go back until next Thursday. Then I work Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I wish it didn't have to end, but that's life. I'll just cry a lot for the first week or so. And no, I haven't found daycare yet. My lead didn't pan out and neither did the couple other places I called. I'm just going to call the Baltimore County Daycare Search place tomorrow. You can't call after 3 and I didn't get home until almost 3:30 today, so that wasn't happening. I don't need anyone until January anyway. We've pretty much figured out December, with a lot of help from our mothers and some creative scheduling on my part. Again, my manager is awesome, and said I could make my own schedule for December to fit my childcare needs. He rocks.

Today was interesting. Becky and I took the girls to the Picture People in Towson to get their Christmas pictures done. We were a little afraid, considering that we're dealing with a 1-year-old and an 8-week-old. The store is right next to Nordstroms, so I took Abby there to feed her in the lovely women's lounge before our appointment, hoping to get her in a good mood. It worked until I was dumb enough to put her in the stroller to get her to Picture People. So, she was crying when we came in. When I laid her on the bench to change her into her Christmas dress though, she calmed down and was good as gold for most of the session. Hooray! The photographer even managed to get a cute one of the two of them together, so we were happy. Thank goodness I had a $50 gift card that I got as a shower gift, because they aren't cheap. I got out for an extra $45, so that wasn't too bad. We get to do the professional photos again at the end of the month with Ed's niece, but I won't be spending nearly as much then.

In other news, my daughter refuses to sleep on her back. I find this quite distressing. I asked Santa for an Angel Care monitor, like I read about on Erin's blog. Even if I wait until she's totally out before laying her down on her back, she starts grunting and groaning immediately and is usually awake within minutes. If she actually stays asleep, it's for no longer than an hour or so. On her tummy, she sleeps 5-6 hours at night. Maybe it has something to do with her poor tummy and her gas issues, but I have no idea how to clear that up either. Any thoughts?

And I'm pretty sure I was supposed to bake cookies for today, but I'm not sure I'm still in the work cookie exchange. I signed up before I left, but I'm going to double check with Carrie anyway. Not that I had time to bake yesterday. The baby wasn't feeling good and just wanted to be held all day. On top of that, our dishwasher is broken and I had a sink full of dishes and no room to bake. Ed finally had time to help me with them after I put Abby down last night. There's still more to be done though. And the repair guy can't get here until next Wednesday. Blah.

A Moment Alone

The hubby is on a late-night sales call in Virginia and the baby is asleep in her travel swing, so I actually have a moment to myself. It seems like lately all I've been doing is holding the baby. Not that I'm complaining because that's one of my favorite things to do, but she's been sleeping a lot all week and hasn't been letting me put her down much. A couple nights ago I just gave up and brought her into bed with us. I'll do that in the mornings sometimes once Ed's up, but I don't like to do it when we're both sleeping. But I was desperate for some sleep and I had tried to put her in the bassinet three times without success. She slept for almost six hours that way, so it was well worth it.

Tomorrow my mom gets her turn babysitting in the morning because I have to go get my emissions test done. How unfair is it that I had to go twice already this year (because my Taurus failed the first time) and then my new car needs the test less than six months after I got it? It sucks, I tell you! But I figure I'll try to finish up as much Christmas shopping as possible while I'm out (since I finally have my secret santa name). I don't have much left to get, so yay for me. :) I just have to be back at my mom's by noon because she's getting her new furniture for her family room delivered between noon and 4. I'm staying until it gets there so I can be the first to see it (in the house anyway, Becky went with her to pick it out). :)

I'm off to hunt for the list of Christmas presents we still have to buy. My husband's so organized it's almost sick...which is good because I've never been organized in my life.

Baby's Sleeping and I Don't Feel Like Doing Anything

So here's a holiday survey for you (stolen from Carrie and Brooke). :)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper, although I'll complain the entire time I'm wrapping. I use giftbags when the gift is too hard to wrap or I don't have the time.
2. REAL OR FAKE TREE? Fake. I've always had a fake tree and I will always have a fake tree. Right now we're using Ed's grandmother's old tree, but I don't think we'll get another year out of it. Hopefully next year we'll be able to afford a new one with the lights already on.
3. When do you put up the tree? When we have time, but not before the first weekend in December. We're planning on putting it up this weekend.
4. When do you take the tree down? Usually right after New Year's Day.
5. Do you like eggnog? I love eggnog, but it doesn't like me. :(
6. Favorite gift received as a child? My keyboard, my first Cabbage Patch Kid (Abby), my first real camera
7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yup, a Little People one that's NOT for playing! I love it!
8. Hardest person to buy for? My mom
9. Easiest person to buy for? Ed
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A set of encyclopedias
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, definitely. I may send e-mail greetings, but I'll have already mailed a card as well.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I love Christmas movies! I like A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (the original), Love Actually (it counts!), all the television Christmas specials, etc.
3. When do you start shopping for Christmas? The week before Thanksgiving
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Nope.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Ham and Cookies
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear.
17. Favorite Christmas song? O, Holy Night, The Muppets 12 Days of Christmas
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Travel, as in going to visit numerous relatives
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? Yup
20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star, but only because there's not enough room between the top of the tree and the ceiling for an angel
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas Eve, but since Santa will be coming this year, Abby's gifts will be opened on Christmas morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Working retail. At least I get to miss some of it this year. Wonder if I can get myself knocked up again this February. ;)
23. What I love most about Christmas? The traditions, the memories, being with family.

That's that. :) As for yesterday, I made it okay. The class was long and boring, but I survived. Abby did great over her Gram's house. No problems with the bottles and she just slept most of the time. Ed and I both wound up over there since we were both on that side of town and traffic was a nightmare. So my MIL watched her a little longer and we went out to dinner. That was so nice to be able to do. :) I missed her, but now I know I'll be all right going back to work.

I Miss My Baby!

Today I'm finally taking that stupid insurance class that Ed's been wanting me to take so I can get my license and help him out. Ed just left to take Abby to his mother's for the day. And I'm sitting here crying because I can't stand the thought of being away from her for so long. I don't even want to think about how bad I'm going to be when I go back to work. Keep your fingers crossed that she does okay today. I'm scared about how she's going to react to only getting bottles for so long. Up until now, she's only gotten one bottle a day and I've just nursed her the rest of the time. Hopefully I pumped enough for her to get by until I pick her up. I gave my MIL three 4oz bottles and three 2oz bottles. I also gave her one of the boxes of pre-measured formula that I got from the hospital. Hopefully she won't have to resort to them, but they're there just in case. Okay, off to my boring class (from 8:30 to 3ish). Just shoot me now.

I still miss my baby. :(

Gigantic Nostrils

Have you ever looked in the mirror after staring at your baby's tiny face all day long and became frightened at how large your own features look? Especially the nostrils for some reason. Weird.

Thanksgiving went well. The turkey turned out great, but I messed up the stuffing. I let the breadcrumbs soak too long (I was attending to Princess Fussypants) so it was soggy. Everyone still ate it though, so whatever. Next time it will be perfect. :)

Everything else is good. I have a lead for a daycare provider, so I'm going to call her on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed that she is willing to accept an infant.

Birthday Greetings...1 Day Late

So sorry Val! A certain somebody wouldn't let me put her down yesterday, so I never got a chance to post. Anyway...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAL!

I thought about you and your 30-ness all day yesterday. Hope it was a good day!

To everyone else:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Wish me luck as I attempt to cook my first turkey! ;)

I Actually Accomplished Something!

Today Abby and I got over half of our Christmas shopping done in one shot! Woohoo! Gotta love Target. I had a $250 gift card from a Pampered Chef incentive last year...plus a $25 one I got as a gift...so that more than covered the shopping I did today. I got a crapload of toys and a cheapie present for my sister (per our choice...we're concentrating on gifts for the girls this year...we're doing the same thing with Ed's sister). Of course, now I have a living room full of stuff that needs to be wrapped. Blah.

In other news, since I'm such a gluton for punishment, I've decided to do Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year. Ed's family wasn't going to have dinner since his mom has to work and his sister will be in South Carolina. We were supposed to go over my Aunt Wanda's house for dinner, but Joe (her significant other) broke his hip on Saturday, so dinner is most definitely off. It broke my heart to not have Thanksgiving, especially since it's Abby's first, so my house it is. It will my us, my mom, hopefully Becky and family, and Ed's parents and grandmother. Unfortunately, I had already decided to do it around 4ish so I could work around the baby...not thinking that Becky's husband has a family dinner too. Hopefully they'll be able to make it here for at least a little while. Becky is planning on coming over to help me because she's awesome like that, so we'll still get to see her. :)

So, I guess that means we're grocery shopping tomorrow. Woohoo! Ed should be able to go with us, which will make things much easier. He was gone all day today (left at 6am and won't be home until 7ish), but the rest of the week should be easy for him. That's good for me since he'll be able to help me get things together for Thursday, but bad since he won't be making much money this week. This sales thing is a tough gig, but it will get a lot better once he reaches his one-year mark and starts to get commission on the business he wrote last year.

Oh...my Abby-doo will be six weeks old tomorrow. If I had given birth vaginally, I would be expected to go back to work already. So not cool...there is no way I would have been mentally ready yet. I doubt I'll be ready in three weeks when I definitely have to go back, but unfortunately we have no choice. :( Still don't have daycare, but I noticed a new sign in front of a house I pass by on my way to work everyday. I'll have to drive past again and get the number off of it to see if they have an infant spot open. I'll keep my fingers crossed for this one since it would be very convenient. So much to worry about...so little time.
