Happy Christening Day

Pictures, Part I.

All dressed up and ready to go. She wore her Aunt Wendi's old christening dress that my MIL's aunt crocheted many years ago. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but it looked cute on her.

Daddy trying to figure out how to get her in the carseat with that big dress on.

Don graciously volunteered to stay at our house to "babysit" the food. I'm sure it killed him to have to skip the church part. ;)

Abby was fascinated by the church until she decided she was hungry. Luckily we had a small bottle ready to go which she sucked down in no time.

Our friend Tim who is going through the long, difficult process of becoming a deacon got to assist with the ceremony in an official capacity for the first time. It was very cool that he did that for us. :)

She went through the actual baptism part like a pro...although she made everyone laugh after he poured the water on her head the first time and she looked up to see who was doing that to her.

Godfather Tom (a.k.a. Gilligan), Godmother Becky, "Father Tim," Abby, me (in my $9.99 Old Navy dress) and Ed.

Becky and her goddaughter.
Alas, no pictures of the baby at the after-party...she slept through the entire thing! But everything went well and everyone seemed to have a lovely time. More pictures to come once Val and my SIL send me some. These were courtesy of Becky.

Still Cleaning

Slowly but surely, our house is transforming into a guest-worthy dwelling. We should really clean more than we do, but between working full time and wanting to spend as much time with Abby as possible, cleaning isn't exactly number one on my priority list. The only rooms that really drive me nuts if they're not at least livable are my kitchen and bathroom. It was driving me crazy when our dishwasher was broken because the dishes would just pile up and it's such a pain to wash them by hand. I used to do it all the time growing up, but at least we had a double sink then which makes it much easier. All I have is a single sink and a small draining basket that just gets water all over the counter. So, it's a two-person job to wash dishes in my house...I wash and Ed dries and puts away. But finding time to do that while Abby's sleeping isn't always easy. At least the repair guy finally came on Tuesday and all is good with the world.

I just dropped Abby off at daycare. It's a little easier, but it still makes me sad. At least the woman watching her loves my baby. And Abby seems to like her too, so that makes me feel better. Just as long as she doesn't like her better than her mommy! ;) I don't have to work until 1 today, so I have time to clean my bathroom (woohoo) and pump before I go in. Ed's going to pick Abby up at 5:15 and then take her to his mom's house because he has a work dinner to go to tonight. At Morton's. While I'm stuck at work eating a Lean Pocket for dinner. He sucks.

Worst Parents Ever

Seeing as how we're having a party on Sunday and Ed's schedule is crazy the rest of the week, we had no choice but to take the baby grocery shopping tonight. We had her in warm jammies with a warm hat and packed up all nice and snuggly in her BundleMe, so we did all we could to keep her warm on this cold, cold night. But we still had a woman make a snide comment as we were running into the store about taking the baby out in the cold. I'm sorry...are we supposed to stay in the house until spring? Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...and we did our best to keep her warm. Mind your own business.

At least Abby is getting better in grocery stores. She used to start to have a melt down about five minutes in every time, but now she stays pretty well amused for most of the trip. She started to fuss a little at the checkout, but that was because the only open cashier was totally useless and we were stuck behind someone using five rainchecks for about 30 cans of tuna. And then he didn't believe the cashier when told his total and demanded a calculator so he could figure out the total himself. Good times, I tell ya. Of course, the stupid grocery store didn't have everything we needed, so I need to try to get to another one sometime this week. Blah. Party throwing used to be much easier. ;)

Trauma

Today was Abby's first day at daycare and it was quite traumatic. For me. The baby was fine. Except for the fact that I slipped walking into daycare while carrying her in the carseat. I went down on my knee (not the bad one) and the carrier went straight down, but hard. Scared the crap out of me. She cried for about 20 seconds, then was fine...even smiled at me in the house. Thank goodness those seats were designed to take an impact like that. My leg's all scratched up, but at least that made my decision over which dress to wear for the christening a lot easier. The longer one is the winner. ;)

When I picked her up today, the daycare chickie said that she had been good as gold all day. She was talking and playing and even slept on her back for her. She wasn't happy when I got there though because she had just fallen asleep and we woke her up when we put her in the car seat. But she was fine once the car got going. She was even laughing at me when we got home, so all is well. She's sleeping now (on her tummy). At least the first day is over...hopefully it will get easier after this.

Photo Dump

Looking gangsta in her carseat.

This would be why I finally broke down and started putting her in her crib at night. Yes, that's her head up against the top of the bassinet. And, yes that's her feet almost touching the bottom.

The baby posse on New Year's Eve. Also know as Jordan, Paige and Abby. Claire was home partying with Grandma.

The baby posse with their mommies.

Look, no boogies. :)

Practicing her mad grasping skills.

Playing on her caterpillar, which now lives at Grandma's because we ran out of room after Christmas.
Rough Night

My poor baby was having some major gas issues tonight. She had a major blow-out in her diaper while napping around 8. Ed took care of the mess and we gave her a bath. Then she acted like she wanted to eat, but starting fussing when I tried to feed her. I could hear her poor tummy rumbling, so I gave her some gas drops. She just kept fussing after that, so I cuddled and rocked her for awhile and she calmed down. Then she wanted to play and was being very funny and cute. But 15 minutes later she was fussing again. So we cuddled and rocked some more. Then it was playtime again. Then she finally decided she was hungry and nursed until she fell asleep. Hopefully she's down for the night now. Poor baby. :( I feel like it's my fault too, but I can't think of what I could have eaten to cause her that much discomfort. Maybe it was just one of those things. That's one of the bad things about breastfeeding...knowing that what you eat could impact the baby. :(

Other than that, not much happening around here. We're starting to prepare for Abby's christening party on Sunday. My ever organized husband made up a schedule for the week so we can spread out the fun from now until party-day. It does help though so we don't just procrastinate and then try to catch-up the day before. Especially since I will be spending most of that day cooking. I try to do as much as I can the day before to make the actual party day as easy as possible...especially since we have to go to the church for the actual baptism before the party at the house. It just throws a kink into the whole plan. Anyone (besides Becky, who must attend the ceremony) want to volunteer to skip the church to babysit my food? Hey, it never hurts to ask! ;)

3 Months!

Happy Days Off

Abby is 3 months old today! Picture to come.

I'm enjoying my second of two days off in a row with Abby. :) How I wish I could have every day off with Abby, but I'll keep hoping that someday it will be possible. Yesterday we ran some errands...mainly dropping off her daycare medical forms at the pediatrician's office and going to Target. I had two $1 off Huggies wipes coupons and Target has a printable store coupon for $3 off any two Huggies products (found on the Baby Cheapskate website to the right), so I saved $5 on two wipes refills. Woohoo. Saving money makes me happy. :) Today though, we've just been chillin' and hanging out with Grandma when she came over with lunch. Good times.

Tomorrow I have to work late, but Ed's taking the baby to his mom's in the morning, so I'll be able to get more errands done before I go in. I have to pick up said medical forms and go to the daycare place to sign the contract (hopefully). The owner of the daycare center where our potential daycare provider worked for nine years has yet to return my calls for a reference. Hopefully she'll call back today so we can get everything situated since we need her next week.

I'm supposed to have started my diet this week, but seeing how I'm currently experiencing my second period in a month, I've postponed it until next week. How unfair is that...two in four weeks. And this one is sucking too. Stupid, dumb pill! Hopefully it goes away soon. At least with the beautiful weather yesterday, Abby and I were able to go for a nice long walk. I even put her in the main part of her stroller for the first time, which she seemed to like better than being in the carrier in the stroller. All I know is that when I peeked at her about halfway through, she was sound asleep. Too cute. :)

Why We Need Daycare

So we don't have to worry about days like this again. We figured out over the weekend that we had nobody to watch the doodlebug today. :( Both our mothers had to work and Ed and I both had early work meetings this morning. So, my mom said that she could watch Abby for my 7-9 meeting but she had to go to work after that. So I went in for the two hours and left. Ed said he could get home between 1 and 2 this afternoon, so when he gets home, I'll go back to work to finish my shift. Thank goodness my position allows for such flexibility...and thank goodness I have a boss who doesn't really care what I do schedule wise, as long as I get my job done.

When I picked Abby up from Grandma's house, she had just woken up. Apparently she fell asleep soon after I left and woke up again as I was pulling up to the house. That was great, since that meant my mom didn't have to feed her and use any of my precious pumped milk. :) I definitely have enough for Ed to get through the night...and then I'm off the next two days to feed her directly from the tap.

Speaking of which, Wednesday is her three-month-day, so I will have gone three whole months just giving her breast milk. Yay! I'm pretty sure we're going to have to start supplementing with formula very soon though. When I'm home, she wants to eat a lot more, but less at one sitting. When she's being bottle fed, she doesn't eat nearly as often, but she's taking about six to seven ounces at a time. I just can't keep up with the pumping (since I only have time to do it once a day at work) and my frozen backup supply is down to 8oz (which will probably be used tonight...definitely by the end of the week). :( But I have plenty of freebie formula in the kitchen, so we shouldn't have to buy any for a little while yet. And I'm going to keep pumping every day at work and feeding her myself whenever I'm home. So hopefully we won't have to give her more than one or two bottles of formula a day. Not that there's anything wrong with formula, but we've been spoiled not having to purchase any these first three months. We're trying to keep expenses down where we can.

Okay, off to get a couple things done while Abby's sleeping and before I have to go back to work. I've already been back once today to show off my baby. I haven't brought her into the store since she was a month old, so since I had her and we were passing by that way anyhow, we stopped in to say "hi" and to attend our first storytime. :) I can't wait to take her to see the costumed characters! Or at least to get my mom to bring her in to see the costumed characters. Hey Becky...do you have another carseat base we could put in mom's car?

We Think We've Found Daycare!

We met with the daycare lady I called last week on Friday and we both liked her and her little place. Her whole basement is her "center" and she has it set up really well. She's all about teaching...she worked in a center for nine years before deciding to go it alone. Her business is still really new, so she's more than willing to be flexible. We want to do three days a week with her and she doesn't care which days she gets Abby every week (as long as we give her a schedule ahead of time). That's awesome since my MIL's schedule is a little wacky and she doesn't have set days off every week. It's more of a six days on, three days off schedule. Drop off and pick up times are also flexible so that's good with my (sometimes) wacky retail work schedule. I'm going to call the center where she worked for a reference, but I think we're going to go with her. My mom wants to go with me to check the place out, so pending her approval we (and you, dear friends) can stop worrying.

Other than that, it's been a lazy weekend. We've gotten a few things done, but we also "relaxed" a lot. Abby has been really sleepy recently. Maybe she's getting ready for another growth spurt. It felt like all she did yesterday was eat and sleep. She slept nine hours overnight, got up to eat, played for a little while, ate again and was back to sleep within an hour and a half. Hopefully she'll want to play more later. Ed set up her two big Christmas toys yesterday. She played with them for a little while each. She seemed to like them, so that was fun.

Today we're also hoping to get to the grocery store. It's hard to eat healthy when there's not much that's healthy to eat in the house. Last night I clipped coupons and Ed went through my coupon accordion and threw out the expired ones. We can start to pick up stuff for the christening party too. Sales and coupons are my friends. :) Speaking of the party, anyone have any food requests?

The Santa Gift
Didn't mean to leave anyone is suspense! Here's the reveal:

In case you can't tell, it's this:

Now we just have to get around to setting it up! :) That was her only "Santa Gift" since she had no idea what the heck was going on anyway. Plus we knew that she would be well taken care of toy-wise. :)

Christmas Pictures

Christmas morning in one of her "Baby's First Christmas" pajamas.

Daddy helping her open her first ever Santa present.

With Busha wearing her Santa hat (which totally cracked me up every time I looked at her).

Wearing matching outfits with her cousin Kaylee.
I happened to notice in another picture that Kaylee had this outfit and I remembered seeing one very close to it with all the hand-me-down Christmas stuff from Becky, so I brought it on the chance that Kaylee was wearing hers. The only difference was that Abby's said "Baby's First Christmas" and Kaylee's said "Merry Christmas." Of course, that was probably because the little chunker is already in 12-18 month stuff (as she has been for over a month). And she was born at the end of March. We had professional pictures taken of the two of them together on Saturday and we had them in these outfits again. Gotta go with the matching stuff when you can. :) Now Becky and I just have to get matching outfits for Abby and Claire.

Bye Bye Tree

Our house is officially de-Christmased. It always makes me sad to take down the tree, but it's nice to have room to walk in my living room again. Especially now with the influx of baby toys that have taken over the space. It's all about the baby.

And the diet begins again today. The holiday eating binge was fun while it lasted, but now I have to start watching what I eat again. And I need to somehow find time to exercise. With a (almost) 3-month old to take care of. Too bad it's too cold to walk outside...that would make life a lot easier. I'll think of something.

Off to feed the baby and get to work. Blah.

Happy New Year!

Sorry about the blog slacking, but it's been a crazy week. :) The holidays were good. Christmas Day was exhausting...we did the double family thing with baby in tow. We didn't even get to go to church, but we watched the Pope's midnight mass on television (while lying in bed). I figure that has to count for something. Then it was off to my grandmom's house, where we had dinner number one. My grandmom, mom, Becky, Uncle Stas, Uncle Bob, Aunt Kolleen and my cousins Brittani and Natalie were all there. That was actually the first time that my Uncle Bob and his family had met Abby. How sad is that? But we had a good time and Abby got some nice gifts (both Christmas and "welcome to the world"). I knew it was going to be a tough day for the baby when we had to leave about 15 minutes after she fell asleep.

We made a really quick stop over my other grandma's house. I mean quick, we were only there about five minutes. As much as I love her, it's so sad to go visit her now. Her mind is rapidly deteriorating and it kills me to see her like that. She used to be sharp as a tack and now she didn't even remember that I had a baby. It makes me very sad...I even cried a little in the car afterwards. Getting old sucks. :(

After that fun we went to pick up Ed's nan and then went to his parents' house for dinner number 2. I forgot to mention that during all this fun, I had a very annoying stomach bug that had been bothering me for a couple of days. I even left work early on Sunday and on Christmas Eve. I won't go into specifics, but it was not fun. And it flared up again at the in-laws. Good times. But it was still nice...Abby got lots of toys to add to the pile she had already gotten from my mom and Becky. She went from having no toys to having more than we know what to do with. Plus, Becky is going to go through Claire's stuff soon and give Abby what her cousin has outgrown. It's okay though...Becky and I were spoiled when we were kids and we turned out okay. ;) And during all this, Abby barely slept. She was not a happy camper by the time we got home that night.

The rest of the week is a blur of working and taking care of Abby. I am so tired, I haven't had two days off in a row since I started working again. I've been working weekends, both because it's the holiday and my responsibility as a manager and so that it's two less days every week we have to worry about who's going to watch the baby. The good news is that I think we may have found a daycare provider. I finally called the place that I pass on my way to work every day and she has an infant opening. Ed and I are going to go there this week to meet with the woman and check the place out. Keep your fingers crossed that we like her enough to trust her with my precious baby girl. Oh how I wish I could just stay home with her, but that's not happening any time soon. Some day perhaps.

Yesterday, I had to work during the day and then we had our usual New Year's Eve gathering. It always used to be a Kathy's place in Locust Point and we would walk to the water to watch the fireworks. Now we're all old with kids, so it was at Meg's house instead. As we were walking in, one of neighbors was leaving (to go to a cool party, I'm guessing) and stopped to ask, "Is this the baby party?" Good guess, dude. ;) You know you're getting old when half the party guests leave before midnight. We had our annual Secret Santa gift exchange and our new "baby gift exchange." How times change, but it was still fun...just in a different way.

Today is the first time that Ed and I are off together with no plans to leave the house since my maternity leave. I'm so looking forward to just relaxing at home with my family. I'm making Ed watch Hairspray with me (even though I've already watched it three times since I got it on Christmas Eve). Then I work tomorrow and Thursday...but I have off for three days in a row after that! I can't even tell you how much I'm looking forward to that! :)

I hope everyone else's holidays were enjoyable. Happy New Year to all!
