Up and Running Once Again

Our stupid internet service has been rather spotty for almost a week now...hence the lack of posting. I'm not sure if it was Comcast or if it's because our computer and modem are located upstairs, which got hot as hell this weekend...but either way it seems to be better now. Yay!

Seriously...this weekend? Crazy hot for April. I wasn't prepared for that quite yet. It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact that my house gets very hot very quickly and when we tried to turn on the AC Saturday night to cool it down in here, it wouldn't go on. Talk about going into panic mode. Luckily, we had a feeling that the problem was with the new thermostat that Ed and his dad installed a few months back. His parents came over on Sunday so his dad could take a look and there was, in fact, a loose wire in there. Thank goodness for that because there is no way we could afford a new system right now. Another bullet dodged.

In the meantime, my daughter was a beast Sunday evening because of the heat. Actually, it was the combination of the heat, the fact that I had dragged her out during the day to see my grandmothers so she didn't get her nap on time (and then I had to cut it short because I didn't want her sleeping past 5 when she had to get up early for daycare the next day), she wanted her daddy who was busy fixing our fence with his dad, and she was hungry. Major temper tantrum moment while my MIL was trying to play with her. So, that was fun. Luckily the AC cooled the house down and she got a cool bath and dinner, so she was okay after that.

Everything else is same old. Haven't heard back from the company I interviewed with last week, so I'm not feeling too confidant. Still looking and applying around. Found two possibilities today that I went for, even though I didn't have the exact experience they were looking for. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. And who knows...anything can happen!

Bubbas!

My child is driving me crazy with her bubble obsession. I have to hide the bubbles from her or else all I'd hear all day is "bubbas, bubbas, bubbas, bubbas...BUBBAS!!!!!!!!!!" Actually, I don't mind blowing them for her, but it when she wants to do it herself that it starts to get a little hairy. She's getting pretty good at the blowing, but she insists on trying to dip the wand back into the bubble solution after every attempt at bubble blowing and then she grabs the wand as close to the top as possible, so she gets the soap all over her. And she gets mad when it's time to put the bubbles away. The best thing we have is her bubble machine because it makes so many so fast, that she's content just playing with the bubbles. Of course, we only use that outside, which pisses her off too. Oy to the bubbles!

Today we had a lovely morning. Ed didn't have to leave the house until 10ish, so he let me sleep in and took care of Abby when she woke up. Then my mom called and asked to take us out to breakfast at 10:30. We went to IHOP and my little piggy daughter ate almost an entire "Rooty Jr." breakfast by herself. That would be one scrambled egg, one piece of bacon, one sausage link and a strawberry-covered pancake. She ate everything but about a quarter of the pancake (although she polished off the strawberries)...plus a half a piece of toast. This is on top of the large banana she ate around 8:30 in the morning. At least I didn't have to give her lunch before putting her down for her nap!

After breakfast we did a little shopping and my daughter lead my mom on a wild goose chase around the store. Of course, Grandmom was the one who took her out of the cart, so there you go! Grandmom got her some summer outfits...shorts and shirts, NOT dresses (my child has enough summer dresses to be able to wear a different one every day for a month and a half) and a couple of outdoor toys. Abby was exhausted by the time we got back to the car, so I changed her diaper and put her down as soon as we got home. Naturally, it took her an hour to fall asleep. Go figure!

Hopefully the ground will be dry enough once she wakes up for us to go outside to play. The temperature is perfect and the sun's out...just don't know if we've recovered from all the rain yesterday. Maybe I'll just put her in a backup outfit and take her out anyway. She needs to get outside to run around...and so does Mommy!

Thank Goodness That's Over!

I'm pretty sure that my interview today went well. The two women that interviewed me were both very nice and even complemented me on some of my answers. I had to take an online skills assessment test as well, but that was ridiculously easy. My only concern with that was the fact that I didn't do as well on the typing part as I normally would because the keys on the keyboard were very difficult to work with, especially since I'm now used to typing on a laptop. The backspace button was rather tiny too, so that messed me up a bit. I know that's going to show a word per minute result that is much slower than what I can usually type (if you don't believe me, go to my facebook page and check out my typing test results! :P), but hopefully that won't make or break me!

So, I'll find out either way by the end of next week. Even if they offer it to me, a lot will depend on how much they offer to pay me. It would definitely have to be on the high end of the scale they quoted me to make it worth it...especially since the hours aren't great and it involves a commute longer than ten minutes (hey...I was spoiled with my last job). We'll see...

So...how about this weather? I hate the rain...especially when I'm attempting to drive someplace I've never been before. Then I had a couple of errands to run afterwards, so I'm a little soaked. I really need to think about investing in an umbrella...or at least an umbrella that doesn't look like a giant duck head complete with beak. That's fine for when I have Abby, but I feel a little silly carrying it otherwise! ;)

Happy Anniversary Becky & Scott!

I can't believe it's been five years already! Hope your fifth is better than mine was! ;)

I'm so happy to finally be online. My stupid cable has been having issues since Wednesday night, so I haven't been online since that afternoon. To make matters worse, the digital cable was affected too, which meant that Lost didn't record on Wednesday. Gah! Ed and I will have to watch it online while Abby's sleeping at some point. The computer's running slow right now, but I'm not sure if that's a cable issue or a computer issue. Hopefully it speeds up by the time we try to watch it or I'm not going to be a happy camper!

Went to Becky's house yesterday while she was at work to play with Grandmom and the cousins. Hopefully next week we'll be able to come over and actually spend time with Aunt Becky. She was better off not being though because Abby was whining up a storm. I tried to put her in the Jumping Bean (think a small, round inflatable bouncer with an inflatable wall surrounding it), but she didn't want to have anything to do with that. I probably messed up by just sticking her in it instead of letting her figure out how to get in it herself. Maybe she'll like it better next time...or maybe she's just holding out for Aunt Becky to blow up the giant inflatable bouncer that my mom and her in-laws bought the kids for Easter. We're going to be hanging out at Aunt Becky's Amusement Park a lot this summer!

***Edited to add that it was definitely a cable problem...I wrote this post two days ago and just as I was going to publish, the cable went down completely...so, better late than never!***

Post-Holiday Yuck

Yeah, all three of us are a little under the weather right now. Abby and I seem to only have some nose issues, but Ed's got it the worst. Or maybe he's just the whiniest...could go either way. Today was a no daycare day, so we all just spent the day in our jammies and chilled. Abby wasn't too happy about that because she was dying to go outside, but with the rainy/chilly weather today, that wasn't going to happen even if we were all feeling well.

The holiday was fun. Busy, busy, busy...but fun. We did all the traveling I had already posted about, but with an added Easter Egg Hunt at Becky's that morning. Abby had a great time, although she had no idea what was going on. She just liked the eggs and was happy picking them up and dropping them in the bag I was holding. Becky and Scott went crazy with the eggs...they stuffed and hid about 200 for 4 little ones. The older girls went nuts, but Abby still got about a dozen. Not like she's really into candy right now, so that was fine for her. Next year though, she'll be running around with the rest of them. At least Abby knew what to do by the time we got to Ed's grandmother's house and had the mini egg hunt there. She was so tired by the end of the day, that she totally zonked out in the car.

Friday I took her for her 18-month checkup. My little chunker is still topping the charts with her weight and height. She weighs 28.4 lbs and is 33 1/3 inches...95th percentile for both. That was not a fun doctor's visit at all. I think she remembered the doctor from the last time and was not a happy camper when he came into the room. As soon as she saw him, she had a death grip on me and wouldn't take her head off of my shoulder. When I finally had to detach her from me for the actual examination, she just screamed the entire time. Oy. I felt bad, but it had to be done. She didn't stop until the doctor finally left the room. I'm glad she doesn't have another checkup until she's 2.

We may have to take her back before that though. Her left foot turns in a lot when she walks. Ed and I both had to wear a bar between our feet when we were little because our feet turned in, so poor Abby was doomed from the start. The doctor said that there's still a lot of flexibility in the foot though, so it may adjust itself. We have to be vigilant about not letting her sit on top of her feet, which is her natural way of sitting herself down. When she does, it pushes the foot the wrong way which may be a contributing factor. He said to keep a close eye on it and if the foot doesn't look like it's getting better in a month or two to call him and he'll send her to an orthopedic specialist. Hopefully we can avoid that.

In other news, I finally got an interview. Woohoo! The money's not what I'm hoping for, but I figure I'll go and (1) get an interview under my belt and (2) listen to what they have to say. You never know...the benefits might make up for the lower salary. It never hurts to give it a shot. The interview is next Monday at 10...wish me luck!

Abby's New Swingset
Daddy and Pop put together Abby's swingset today just in time for her 18-month day! Hooray! They didn't quite finish it...the teeter totter still needs to go on...but it's ready for swinging. Here's some pics!

This and That

Sorry for the recent lack of posts. I seem to run either hot or cold with the blog...just haven't had much to say this week. Job search keeps a-going with much frustration. Although I did find a posting for a job that actually sounds like what I used to do, but without the selling (which was what I wasn't very good at). They're probably looking for someone with "bigger" experience, but I put in my resume anyway. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I'm hoping my experience will at least get me an interview. Keep you fingers crossed.

I was excited yesterday...I got a call from a research company to request that we do a diaper trail. Basically, they're going to send us a pack of about 20 diapers and a questionnaire. I use the diapers on Abby, answer the questions, do a 2-minute phone interview and then they'll send me a check for $10. I figure, free diapers and an extra $10...why not. I'll let you know how it goes...hopefully the diapers aren't too cheap. If you're interested, you can call 1-888-342-7372 and press 9 to leave a message with your child's gender and diaper size. It may take awhile for them to get back to you (I called 2 weeks ago), but evidently they do call you eventually.

In other news, my mom bought Abby a swingset for Easter. Woohoo! It's not a fancy wooden one, but I figure that Becky and I had a metal swingset growing up (actually, so did Ed) and we loved it so she will too. All she's going to care about is that she has swings to swing on and a sliding board to climb up and slide down. There's even a teeter-totter on the opposite end of the slide, so that will be fun too. Grandma also got her a baby swing and since Little Tikes were buy one get one free last week, Abby got a bonus shopping cart too. So, she's already had a heck of an Easter and it's still four days away! She's going to be disappointed with what the Easter Bunny brings because he won't be able to come anywhere close to Grandma Bunny's gifts! ;) Ed's hoping his dad will be able to come over tomorrow to help put the swingset together. We'll find out for sure if he can tonight.

I'm looking forward to Sunday in general. Abby has a pretty Easter dress that I'm excited to dress her in. It's black and white...not necessarily my first choice for an Easter dress, but I got it on clearance last year because it was so pretty and it fits her now, so I decided to just go with it. At least it's flowery. We're going to my aunt's house at 1 for an early dinner with my family and then we're heading to Ed's grandmother's house for dinner #2. Of course, that leaves no time for my child to nap, so I'm hoping she'll at least get a half-hour or so in the car in-between stops. Some nap is better than no nap. Plus, there's going to be so much going on, she'll be too excited to realize that she's sleepy. We'll definitely be packing her jammies into her diaper bag so we can change her before we leave Ed's grandmother's. I'm sure she'll be going straight into the crib once we get home.

Naturally, I'm in charge of desert for both dinners. I'm going to go with my chocolate peanut-butter bars and a jello cake for both places. The chocolate peanut-butter bars because my mom, FIL and BIL all love them. The jello cakes because they're much lighter than the bars and I'm going to use strawberry and grape jello to make them look springy. Hopefully my MIL will eat the jello cake...I think I'm going to e-mail her to make sure. She can be very much on the picky side sometimes.

Okay...back to the job search. I may even do a little cleaning today. That would be a nice surprise for Ed. ;)

Photo Dump

Trying to figure out her shoes. Nevermind that fact that she was trying to put them on over her jammies.

Having a bit of a fit because I wouldn't let her into the kitchen while I was trying to cook dinner.

Trying to pet an uncooperative kitty cat.

My niece Kaylee and my SIL Wendi opening gifts at Kaylee's birthday party.

Abby getting in on the present opening action.

Tired of opening gifts, she decided to lounge on the money cards.

Mooching Kaylee's new bicycle (which my SIL got for a steal at Walmart...bargain hunting is a family sport).

I love this picture even though it makes me a little sad. It's the first time I looked at a picture of Abby and thought that she looks like a little girl...not like a baby anymore.

Abby and Kaylee checking out Kaylee's new tea set.

Abby pushing Kaylee on the bike.

and Kaylee pushing Abby.

Hehehehe...from our lazy day yesterday. I guess there was something in there that she really, really wanted...

Which turned out to be a little piece of paper. Figures.

Lying on the floor between the wall and the play kitchen. Still holding onto that piece of paper!

Another Monday

Another week of job-hunting fun. If nothing starts to pan out this week, I'm going to have to try to hook up with an employment agency. Just need to get some extra income coming in while I'm still getting my severance pay so we can catch up with some bills and stuff. We finally had to suck it up and cut a day of daycare every week. I felt bad doing it...I'm cutting someone else's income, but we didn't have a choice. Hopefully it's just temporary. So, for this month at least, Abby's only in daycare on Mondays and Wednesdays.

This weekend was nice. Saturday was my niece Kaylee's 2nd birthday party. Nice, small gathering at my SIL's house. Abby was really shy at first...clinging to Ed, then my MIL, then me...but she warmed up pretty quickly and then was all over the place. She had a blast playing with Kayee's new bicycle. I think my mom's getting a hand-me-down bike for her house, so that will be something for Abby to play with there. I'll do another post and put up some pictures (even though most of you will have seen them on Facebook already). I put her hair in ponytails and it looked so silly and cute that I did it again today. She doesn't fight me too much while I do it and she leaves them alone once they're in, so I'll be doing it more often.

Yesterday was a lazy day. None of us even got out of our jammies until Ed had to get ready for his umpire meeting around 5:30. It's nice to have a day like that every once in awhile...although once the weather gets a little more stable, we won't be able to do the jammies thing since we'll actually be spending time outside. I'm so looking forward to that! Just have to get some outside toys for her to play with!

Trying to Make a Few Bucks

Desperate times call for desperate measure. Nah...it's not that bad. I've taken to the Internet as a means of earning a little extra cash. Notice the new ads over to the right. The "Search and Win" one is for a site called Swagbucks...you sign up and use it as your search engine and they randomly give you points that you can redeem for gift cards and such. You can sign up here under my "referral" if you're interested.

I've also taken to doing a lot of online surveys. There are quite a few sites out there that give you points for every survey you take and you can use the points to get cash or rewards. I've already racked up enough points on one of the sites to get a $15 check (thanks for the recommendation, Val!). It's not going to make you rich, but every little bit helps. If you're interested in signing up for any, let me know and I'll send you the sites. There's also one called Dollar Surveys that you don't have to do much for. They'll credit your Paypal account $1 for each survey you complete. Again, every little bit helps!

I'm also planning on getting some stuff together later this week to try to sell on Craigslist. It's easier than E-bay...no shipping stuff out and no listing fees. We'll see how that goes. I really should have a yard sale, but they don't seem to go well in my neighborhood. I'll have to have Becky look out for a community yard sale in her neck of the woods so I can mooch off that. They have more money over there. ;) I have several bins of yard sale worthy stuff at my mom's house that I know she really wants out of there. There are a lot of baby consignment events happening around town, but that seems like a lot of work just to split the profits with the company hosting the event. Plus, I do want another baby in a couple of years, so I can't get rid of the baby stuff. Of course, with my luck I'll have a boy and I'll be hanging on to all this girl stuff for nothing. But, if I don't, that would guarantee a girl. I may attend of couple of the events just to see what's there. I need some outside toys for Abby. There's one that starts this weekend at a swim club right by my daycare...although I'll probably wait until the following weekend when they have their 1/2 price sale to stop by.

That's all for now. :)
Abby Funnies

  • Abby has a new favorite game she likes to play. It's called "Walk up to Mommy with My Arms in the Air and Say 'Up!' and Then When Mommy Reaches for Me, Turn Around and Run Away Laughing." It's actually pretty funny.
  • When she's laying in her crib trying to fall asleep, sometimes she'll look at her stuffed animals and start to name them and make their sound. The other night, after one of her crying fits, I all of a sudden hear her saying, "Kitty, Ow! Kitty, Ow!"
  • She is starting to "sing." Her favorites to sing along to are Twinkle Twinkle, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Old McDonald. The Old McDonald is pretty funny...we play a game where she hands me her Little People animals and then I'll sing the song about the animal she gave me. So now she'll wave an animal around and start singing the tune with just the "Baa" sound. Hehehehehe...
  • When Mickey Mouse Clubhouse comes on now, she'll stop what she's doing to watch the beginning and will look at me and say "Mickey!" when he comes on the screen. She also likes the Hotdog Dance at the end and will dance along, try to sing and puts her hands in the air when they do.
  • She tries to blow kisses, but always forgets to finish it off. She just puts her hand to her mouth and makes the sound and then that's it. At least she tries.
  • One of her favorite things to do is to look at pictures. She loves her "Abby's First Year" photo book and the little photo album that Grandmom made her with pictures from her birthday and Halloween. She has also taken to pulling my photo album of wedding pictures and the one with Val's wedding pictures off the shelf to look at. Her favorites though are the few pictures of Ryan and Isaac that I have..."Baby! Baby!" She loves those babies.
  • She also loves to look at the pictures and videos stored in my camera. If I can sense a tantrum coming on, I can usually just pull the camera off of the shelf and she'll come running right over to watch. If she wants to let me know that she wants to look, she'll point to the camera and say "Abby!"
  • She's still obsessed with the kitty cat. She loves nothing more than to try to cuddle the cat. The cat usually tolerates it up to a point, but then runs away. Abby will chase her as long as she can, but the cat is usually smart enough to hop a baby fence and get the heck out of Dodge. The cat would actually put up with it a lot longer if Abby didn't insist on getting up into her face and yelling "Kitty!" For some reason, the cat doesn't seem to like that.
  • We also still loves books, books and more books. I read her several stories every night before bed. Lately she is getting very choosy about which books she wants me to read. If I don't have the right one, she'll take it out of my hands and drop it on the floor. I've taken to just leaning her over to the book table and letting her pick the one she wants. It's easier during the day when she'll just come up to us with a book in hand.
  • She can name a lot of Sesame Street characters now. Some people might not see this as good, but I'm amused by it (I love Sesame Street). She says Abby (duh), Cookie, Elmo (although is comes out more like Belmo or Melmo) and Big Bird. She even said Grover the other day, although Super Grover annoys her. Especially when he shows up in the "Helping" episode of Elmo's World.
  • Speaking of Elmo, she loves to try to cuddle her Elmo Alive doll. But then the cuddling will usually make him start to talk and that pisses her off. I really have to find her a cuddly Elmo doll that doesn't talk.
  • When she's eating something that she particularly likes, she's starting to go "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..." Unfortunately, this usually happens when we let her have something sweet. Between Ed and me, it was inevitable that she was going to have a sweet tooth too.
  • One of her new hobbies is "honking" our noses. I'm pretty sure she learned that at daycare. She really loves to honk both our noses at the same time. We'll keep making the honking sound until she lets go. She thinks it hysterical.
  • She also loves bathtime. It's easy to get her to stay sitting down in the tub now. As soon as she starts to stand, I'll say, "Are you ready to get out?" She plops right back down to let me know that she is most definitely not ready to get out.

Getting Better...

The sleep situation that it. She did wake up crying twice, but we managed to wait her out both times and she went back down without my having to go in to rock her. Yay for not having to get out of bed in the middle of the night! She was a grump when she woke up though...she usually wakes up very pleasant, but today she started crying immediately. When she does that, it usually means that she still wants to sleep, but it was time for her to get up anyway. I put her in her Abby Cadabby shirt, so that cheered her up. ;) She was clingy when we got to daycare, but she must have gotten over it because I never got a "please come and get your child because she is driving me crazy!" call from our daycare provider. Not that I ever have gotten one of those, but there's a first time for everything.

I caught up on all of my job posting e-mails that I didn't get to over the weekend. I even found one to apply for that seemed like it fit my skills. I put in resumes for the office work openings too, but without any "real" office experience (although I did do a lot of the same work at the bookstore) and with everyone and their brother looking for jobs, I'm not expecting much from those. But, you never know...so I keep trying. Every once in awhile I find something that seems more suitable for my experience...they're usually just too far away for me to seriously consider at this point. But hopefully that means that there will be some around here too eventually.

Alone and Bored

Stupid dumb umpire meetings for four Sunday nights in a row! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!! Today was week two, so at least he's halfway finished with them! To make it worse, he also had a fantasy baseball draft this afternoon. At least we had all day yesterday together.

This weekend was tiring. Mostly because my daughter has all of a sudden forgotten how to sleep through the night. Not that I have a lot of room to complain since she's been a great sleeper for almost all of her life, but when she goes through these periods it still sucks. Last night was the worst...she woke up around 11:30, just before we were going to bed. She didn't go back down until around 1. Then she kept waking up, crying and going back down every hour or so. Then at 6:00, she really had a fit. We managed to wait her out and she went back to sleep. But then at 7:30, she was definitely ready to get up. It was Ed's turn this morning after I got up with her at 6:30 yesterday morning. Hopefully this phase will pass quickly...like tonight!

In other growing news, Abby has also become very opinionated about being in her stroller/car seat/shopping cart recently. Now that she's mastered the walking, that's what she wants to do. That's all well and good, but I can't have her walking by herself in the mall or at Walmart or any other number of places. Yesterday we made a quick trip to the mall so Ed could pick up an application for an account he has over there. I had Abby in her umbrella stroller (which I hate by the way...totally should have just put the big stroller in Ed's car) and we were walking around the upper level. She was fine for about five minutes, then it was all twisting herself around, saying "up!" and then whining. Good times. I managed to distract her for awhile in the pet store, but then it started all over. When Ed was finally finished, he got her out of the stroller and carried her because I was done. I kept trying to point out all the other kids in strollers who were content to sit there, but she didn't seem to care. Oh well.

Today we went to Grandmom's house for awhile. We walked to the school so Abby could run around and play on the playground. Too bad they don't have swings there, but there is a small slide that she could go down. Then grandma took her down the big slide and she loved that. She spent the rest of the time walking all over the place. She's still a little hesitant about walking in grass, but once she gets used to it she's fine. She got mad at me when I put her back in the stroller, but then she actually dozed off on the walk back home.

Tomorrow, back to the job hunt! Blah!

Another Week Gone

Well, yay for Friday but boo to another week with no job prospects in sight. Just have to stay positive and keep on sending out those resumes. Hopefully something will come along soon.

Glad this week is over. Ed had a crazy work week, so Abby and I didn't get to see much of him. Poor Abby has been dying for some Daddy time. At least he has a short day today, so we'll all get to hang out. Right now Abby is an hour and a half into her nap (despite my next-door neighbor's best efforts to make enough noise outside her window to wake her up). Once she does wakes up and has lunch, we're going to run to Target to get Ed's allergy prescription and then head to Rita's to get our free Italian Ice. Happy first day of spring! :)

Uh OH!

Intentional emphasis on the oh...that's how Abby likes to say it. And she's been saying it all the time. It's cute, but I keep trying to explain to her that when we do something on purpose (like throwing our sippy cup on the floor, for example), it's not an "uh oh" moment. She doesn't really seem to care about my theories on the usage of the "uh oh." She just likes to say it. When I gave her a bath tonight, she kept leaning the side of her head into the water so it would get wet and then would sit back up and give me a big old "uh OH!" Oy.

I took her to Petsmart after daycare today just to see how she would like it. There happened to be a kitty there today in one of the cages near the front doors, so she went nutso over it. "KITTY, KITTY, KITTY, OW!!!" Then we saw some doggies getting groomed through the window to the groomer and it was "woof woof woof woof woof..." She loves animals. We looked at the fishies and turtles and hamsters and ferrets. She liked all of them, but kept wanting to go back to the kitty. The child is a cat lover from the start. ;)

For some reason she seems to be having trouble falling asleep tonight. That's pretty unusual for her. She'll usually cry for about five to ten seconds, just out of sheer principle. Then she'll drop down onto her tummy and go to sleep. Tonight she did that, but then once I got upstairs and online, she stood up facing the door and had a fit. I let it go for awhile thinking she would go back down, but no such luck. So I finally gave in and went into her room and read to her for a little while longer. Then we re-did the crib-time routine and she cried for about a minute, but she seems to be down now. Weird.
This Mystery is History!

I think I figured out the source of Abby's fish confusion. I was talking to my daycare provider about it yesterday, since it's pretty funny. She said that she hadn't noticed it, but thinks she knows why Abby always says "uh uh" when you say fish. Apparently she reads them a book that has a seal in it. One of the slightly older kids would always point to the seal and say, "fish!" My daycare provider would always reply, "Uh uh, it's a seal." Heh...so when you say "fish" to Abby, she always has to say "uh uh." It's funny the way they pick things up! Now to convince her that a fish is a fish...

Killing Time

Ed had an umpire meeting tonight and then he went out for a beer with an old friend of his who's only in town for today. So, I'm on my own (as usual). At least Abby and I got most of the day with him. We even took a family trip to the grocery store. Woohoo! I've been hitting up Safeway a lot recently. They've been having a lot of good sales (and their in-store coupons rock) and you know I can't pass up a good sale. Since we went during Abby's usual naptime, she got a little impatient toward the end. I decided to just take her outside while Ed got in line at the checkout so she could walk a little. We wound up at the fish store in the shopping center, so she loved that. She was totally fascinated by the fishies and would have happily stayed there for much, much longer. I'll have to remember that one and go back someday. I'll also have to start hitting PetsMart with her so she can look at all the small animals there too.

She does love her animals. We found an animal book in her book bin that I never noticed before. She likes looking at the pictures, but she cracks me up every time we get to a picture of a fish. I point to each picture and name the animal for her and when I say "fish" she always shakes her head "no" and says "uh-uh." I have no idea why she disagrees with me about what a fish is, but it's pretty funny. Maybe it's because we call her Goldfish Crackers "fish." I just don't know. Kitties, on the other hand, she knows very well. She gets so excited too...she'll start bouncing up and down when we get to a picture of one and then she starts to look for "her kitty." And when you ask her what a kitty says, she replies "OW!!" Hehehehehe...

I've been spending my alone time tonight applying for more jobs. There was actually an opening with the library system, so I jumped on that. Perhaps it isn't the ideal library job, but it would be a foot in the door. Working for the library ranks very, very high on my list of ideal jobs (yes, I am a book geek). Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Yay Naptime!

And as an added bonus, I actually get the computer during naptime on a Saturday. Ed's at a stupid fantasy baseball draft, so it's Mommy-time. Woohoo!

I dragged my poor child all over the world this morning. Well, not really...but it sure felt like it! We went to Walgreen's (to get cheap diapers), Target, Old Navy, Staples and the park. That last one is how I made myself feel better about dragging her to all those other places! ;) Not that she got to play for long since it's pretty chilly out, but we had some swing time and she had fun climbing the steps and going down the slide. Plus, as an added bonus, we saw some dogs (woof woof's). And now she's sleeping and I'm chilling. Good times.

Thank goodness the Roseola rash cleared up rather quickly. The fever was by far the worst part. Hopefully this coming week will be nice and normal. Knock on wood!

Mommy Finally Figured It Out...

That Abby has Roseola, that is. At least that explains the horrible fever over the weekend. It was still a bit dark in her room when I got her dressed this morning, so I didn't notice anything, but daycare called me a little after 10:30 because she had noticed a rash on Abby's neck and chest. I went to get her and one of the other mothers was there and told me that her son had the same thing a week or so ago and that the doctor said that it was Roseola. I remembered that Claire had it last year and knew immediately that was what was wrong with Abby. The fever is the worst part...the rash doesn't really bother them. And once you get it, you don't usually ever get it again. So that's one childhood disease behind us. At least I figured out what it was before I took her to the doctor. Who knows what she would have caught in that waiting room!

Nothing else new. Been putting in some resumes, so we'll see what happens. Hopefully an interview or something. Even if it's for a job I'm not all that interested in, I need to go on an interview or two to get comfortable with the process. It's been years and years and years since I've gone on one. I'm not looking forward to having to do them at all. :(

On the Mend

Abby is finally starting to get better...thank goodness. We had to wake her up at 9:30 yesterday and Saturday and she was burning up both days when we got her from the crib. Today she was up on her own at 7:30 and was only a little warm. Hooray! I'm keeping her home with me today, but hopefully she'll be able to go to daycare tomorrow. We'll play it by ear.

In other news, my mom and I went to visit Val and EJ at the hospital yesterday. He's such a cutie-patootie! It always fun to hold a newborn and try to remember my own child being that small. It's crazy how quickly it all goes by. She'll probably be home today, so good luck with that Val!

The boys' christening was Saturday. As previously posted, I had to miss the ceremony, but made it to the party. It was fun and the food was very good. It was novel to be able to hang out with friends without having to worry about chasing Abby around. I still wish she could have gone though. She would have had so much fun running around outside with the other kids. Oh well...next time.
